Artist: Tyler Hobbs

Tyler Hobbs is a visual artist from Austin, Texas, working with algorithms, plotters, and paint. His best-known project, Fidenza, is a series of 999 algorithmically generated works that became one of the most sought-after fine art NFT collections. He has presented solo exhibitions at Pace Gallery in New York and Unit London, among others.

His work explores how computation transforms the natural world, and how the biases of modern hardware and software shape what we see.

Collection: Flyway

Flyway continues Tyler's algorithmic examination of nature, using birds in flight as the subject. Each tattoo in this collection is a custom 1:1 piece: choose any bird in flight, and Tyler will interpret it in the Flyway aesthetic, working with you on size and placement.

Tattoos can include one to three adjacent birds, up to 6 × 2 inches.

Tyler describes Flyway as a natural fit for Blackdot: the transformation of the birds from organic to algorithmic mirrors the transformation tattoos themselves are undergoing. The designs also rely on close parallel lines and the sharp corners of pixelation, marks that are difficult to execute by hand.

What to expect

Does it hurt less than a traditional tattoo ?

Yes — significantly less.

Most clients describe traditional tattooing as a 6–7 out of 10 on the pain scale.

Blackdot is typically rated around a 1–2 out of 10.

Because the system delivers ink with controlled, consistent precision and minimal skin trauma, the experience feels far gentler than conventional tattooing.

While sensitivity varies depending on placement and individual tolerance, clients are often surprised by how comfortable the process is.

What is the healing time ?

Healing time depends on the placement and your body, but Blackdot tattoos typically heal faster than traditional tattoos. Most clients experience surface healing within 1–2 weeks, with full healing generally completed in 3–4 weeks. Following proper aftercare ensures the best results.

What do I need to bring to my appointment ?

Please bring a valid government-issued ID, as well as your confirmation details. We recommend arriving well-rested, hydrated, and having eaten beforehand. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed.
